In 1787 Marine Lieutenant Nathaniel Armstrong guards one of eleven convict ships from England to establish an Australian penal colony and marries fiery Irish convict, Moira. Their descendants deny their convict heritage. Duncan Armstrong helps pass the White Australia Policy in 1901 to keep out Chinese, while cousin Eleanor works for women’s suffrage and a “fair go” for the Aborigines. Chinese Fong brothers suffer violence in the gold fields and fight for a place in Sydney society.
